Join the WriteReader Write-a-thon
A little healthy competition is always great for creativity and learning!
WriteReader’s monthly write-a-thon inspires learners to challenge themselves by writing about whatever they want to share, and encourages new learning by giving them a chance to explore topics that were previously unknown.
The write-a-thon kicks off in the first week of each month, and teachers are encouraged to submit their students’ books for a chance to win some great prizes!
Are your students unsure about what they want to write about? No worries; the write-a-thon also presents new writing prompts each month to get the creative juices flowing. Jump to this section to check out this month’s writing prompts!
Challenge Guidelines
Ready to get creative with our monthly #Writeathon? Guidelines for the challenge are:
- How to Enter:

- Submit your students’ books via social media, tag @WriteReaderapp and use #Writeathon, or email us the book link here.
- Submissions are open till the 20th of each month.
- Prizes:

- Upto a maximum of five (5) winners will be selected each month.
- Each winner will receive:
- A featured showcase in our monthly blog post and on the writeathon website.
- The teachers of the winning entries can win a chance for a one-year premium license, which can either be used by the winner or given away to colleagues.
- Winners’ Selection and Notification:

- Winners will be selected based on:
- Creativity and good storytelling skills.
- *No use of copyrighted materials (both images and text).
- Winners will be announced on the WriteReader Twitter page and showcased in the first week of the new month.

*Please make sure the books don’t contain any personal information, like images, without consent from the parents.
Writing Prompts
Writer’s block got you stuck? Check out this month’s writing prompts inspired by summertime:
- Summertime travel
- A scavenger hunt; make a list of items and tick off each as they come across them
- Special activities, like camping, or putting on a talent show
- A trip to the zoo, aquarium, a baseball game, a farm or a specialized factory (a chocolate factory, or a paper printing press)
- Memories from the summer
- The ocean; pretend they are swimming in it. What do they see? Describe the fish, the plants, the sand, the seashells, etc.
- How to books, such as ‘How to make S’mores’, or ‘How to make sock puppets’
- Creative stories with a summertime theme
Remind students that they can add images from the image bank or search tool, or by using the camera and taking their own pictures!
